Prayer allows the opportunity for a child of God to open his heart to the Most High Creator who demonstrates His mighty love for His children in His answers - Yes, No, Wait.
The definite YES may be followed by a warning - "You will regret this answer, but I will support you through the time of testing that is to come."
Though the definite NO hurts at the time, the reason for the NO soon become apparent and spotlights God's merciful love and unfailing grace.
The most difficult answer to endure is WAIT.
Wait while God prepares the answer in his perfect timing.
Wait like a flower seed buried under winter ground waiting for spring to become a beautiful plant in God's garden.
Wait during drought or flood.
Wait in the season of slow growth.
No matter the reason for the WAIT, the child of God who truly want to please his Heavenly Father continues to read the Word (God's 66 love letters to His children), to watch (listen) for signs of God's direction, and to pray as an expression of dependence on the Most High Triune God.
